Robert Hamill

Alchemist Eulogy

White limestone smashed in heavy mortar,
Crumbles to pyrex beaker.
When splashed with vinegar,
Foamy gas molecules climb steep glass sides.

Robed man with bellows and alembic

Unslaked by timid reaction, fevered alchemist drips
Viscous oil on cotton puffs in rounded barrel.

Sputtering red fuse smokes to dangerous cellulose,
When bracing blast breaks beaker
And spreads alchemist
Across county and country.
