Joy of the Laboratory – Original Version

White limestone smashed in heavy mortar
Crumbled in pyrex beaker, then splashed with vinegar.
Foaming gas molecules climbed glass steep sides.

Unsatisfied by tame reaction, focused alchemist drips
Viscous oil onto cotton puffs in rounded barrel.

Sputtering red fuse smokes at dangerous cellulose,
When bracing blast breaks beaker
And chases chemist from county and country.
